History
The WCRA was formed in 1949 to further the cause of women in cycling. Women did not have World Championships or Olympics at that time, but due to the work of the WCRA they finally had a World Championships in 1956 and were allowed in the Olympics in 1984.

Objectives
To continue raising the profile of women in the sport. To introduce more riders to international racing; to encourage a balanced race programme in domestic racing. The WCRA has its own newsletter that covers all the news not found in other magazines. Women only track, road and criterium championships and handicap racing. Catering for all abilities.
