History Founded in 1888, the RRA acts as the ratification body for 'best on record' rides on set distances (25,50, 100 & 1000 miles) times (12 & 24 hours) and place to place records such as London to Brighton and back, Lands End - John O' Groats and many other routes. These are rides which have taken place in a similar way to time trials (solo rides, not part of a group effort or relay) but with just one rider against the clock on the day. Categories exist for bicycles, tricycles, tandems and tandem tricycles, for men or women, and with mixed crew tandems as well. Many records in the latter categories exist only as standard times to be beaten, which would set up the first record.
