The RIDO 'R2' saddle
Round these parts, the slicksters call me king of the weird saddles.
While they cringe every time they see a saddle that looks like it was designed by the Marquis de Sade or an over-zealous henchmen of the Spanish Inquisition, I see an opportunity for comfort.
Sure, it hasn’t always worked out that way, but some gems have been uncovered, and I think we’ve got another winner.
The Rido R2 is another attempt to create a saddle that, through design, keeps the downward pressure provided by a cyclists’ weight and motion from damaging the perineal area of the human body (ouch!). The verdict? It accomplishes this goal quite well.
The R2’s design features Pressure Shift Geometry and, for some reason, this makes me think of those commercials from my childhood for the Playtex Cross Your Heart bra. Glorious.
Basically, there are three components of this saddle: two separate raised partitions at the back, and a lower standard nose.
This design redistributes the weight onto the sit bones and inner gluteus maximus, which Rido describes as “… those parts of the human anatomy specifically created for taking the strain when sitting and riding.”
There are parts of the human anatomy specifically created for riding a bike? That is weird, but not as weird as the majority of saddles in my collection. The R2’s rails are long, allowing a large range of saddle placement. I found that the R2 was more effective when riding a more upright bike, like my touring bike, than a less upright bike, like my mountain bike, but that can be said about most saddles. If you’re suffering in the lower regions while riding a bike, you might consider giving the R2 a shot.
As Michael Palin once famously said, “Bring out the comfy chair!”
"My feedback on the RIDO R2 bike saddle: I began using the saddle in late May 2010, loved it. Just finished a week-long tour in southern Utah and was in the saddle a lot on some long rides. Loved the saddle even more. My buns felt great. There's no question in my mind -- the RIDO R2 is the most comfortable saddle I've ever had. Sure glad I checked out your website from your ad in Adventure Cycling magazine and decided to order one."

""I saw an article in Adventure Cycling magazine and went from there to your website and read every word. I ordered two R2 saddles for our road tandem and after about 100 miles, placed another order for our off road tandem. They are the most comfortable saddles we have ever used. My wife has had problems with conventional saddles the last few years and she is very happy riding on these saddles. We rode across the USA 5 years ago and our trip would have been much more pleasant with the R2 saddles. Long story short, everything you say in your description of the saddles is true."
